Hi, I’m Lillie Hyde, the founder and roaster behind Hyde Away Coffee. My story with coffee begins in a little shop my family owned when I was just 14. We had just moved to a new town where we didn’t know a soul, and that coffeehouse quickly became my refuge. As an introverted teenager, I found connection behind the counter. I watched strangers become family, hearts open over lattes, and love stories begin right in front of me.

That shop shaped me. It gave me comfort and community when I needed both. And like all the best stories, it has stayed with me.

At 16, I dreamed of starting my own roastery. I called it “Refuge Roasters,” sketched a little logo, and tucked it in my Bible.

But at 17, life unraveled when my father left. I lost nearly everything, including the coffeehouse I loved so dearly. It felt like the dream had slipped through my fingers.

As I grew older, life did bloom again. I met and married my sweet husband, Damian. I spent several years working remotely in software development while raising our precious sons, Emery and Leland. Through it all, I always felt a quiet pull back to coffee.

Then, coincidentally on the exact same date I had drawn that old “Refuge Roasters” logo nine years earlier, I left my job to be home full time. No more meetings or screens. Just motherhood, slow mornings, and the quiet return of a long-held dream. Coffee came back into my life like an answered prayer, and Hyde Away Coffee was born from that joy.

Hyde Away is a gentle nod to my last name, my original business name idea, and Psalm 32:7 —

"You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance."

This little roastery is my way of offering that same kind of refuge to others. A place to rest, reconnect, and feel at home again — one cup at a time.
